The Ottawa collection – new accessories by Karim Rashid

Karim Rashid has literally put his fingerprint on the new Ottawa collection from BoConcept. Several pieces from the accessories collection have been ‘thumbed by Karim’ leaving his own fingerprint on cups and rugs.
“The fingerprint is a really beautiful and abstract form that we can all relate to. It speaks about the new global uniqueness where we are all empowered to express our individuality”, Karim says.
The Ottawa accessories are designed by Karim to make a complete collection for the dining room and include cups, plates, bowls, vases, rug and lamps.
The rug, with Karim’s fingerprint for graphic expression and his signature in pink, is handmade from 100% wool.
The lamp designs are futuristic, but also subdued and expressing the designer’s love for organic, curvy shapes. The table lamp is made in glass with a convenient on/off ‘touch-activation’ function and two light settings. The glass pendant is parted in two halves; one orange and one white. The orange cord on both lamps is a characteristic and fun contrast to the smooth design.
The handmade aluminium bowl is reconfigurable and designed so you can build two or more together to form a pattern. The combination of the two colors creates an industrial, yet sleek look.
The acrylic vases come in four bright colors, all with a different shape. “I wanted to illustrate how functionality really can make something unique and beautiful”, Karim adds. Connect them like pieces from a puzzle or use them separately for flowers or simply as decoration.
The Ottawa accessories collection designed by Karim Rashid for BoConcept is available in all BoConcept stores from March 1, 2012.
