Crooner Matt Dusk Turns Up the Heat with New Projects!
PBS Special Matt Dusk: Live From Las Vegas & Soundtrack for Call Me Fitz
Toronto, Ontario – August 12, 2010 – Hot off the heels of his successful international tour, Canada’s beloved modern day crooner and international recording artist, Matt Dusk, adds a dash of contemporary cool with his first live television special for PBS Matt Dusk: Live From Las Vegas and an emotive score to the dark comedy series Call Me Fitz.
PBS SPECIAL MATT DUSK: LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS
Dusk creates an evening of classic big band tunes – music synonymous with Las Vegas – for his new high-definition television special Matt Dusk: Live From Las Vegas, airing on PBS during its March 2011 Pledge Drive. Inspired by the legends of Vegas, the television event will not only feature Dusk in concert, but will also share his personal stories with the audience.
Matt Dusk: Live From Las Vegas will be taped before a live audience on August 25th at the Crown Theater in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, a return to the city where Dusk got his start. Dusk will perform classic big band favourites and contemporary big band hits such as Get Me To The Church On Time, Who’s Got The Action, and Mack The Knife, along with his original song Back In Town. He will also perform a special duet with Lorna Luft: celebrated live performer, stage, film and television actress, best-selling author, recording artist and Emmy nominated producer.
“Finally, I’m back in the place my career began years ago. I am thrilled to have WLIW/PBS on board to create a unique concert experience for their viewers. Vegas is the place that is drenched in big band history, and to revitalize that with a contemporary spin gets me excited! I mean… who doesn’t love Vegas?” states Dusk.
Matt Dusk: Live From Las Vegas is produced by STILETTO Television. Mark C. Grove, Garry C. Kief, Troy P. Queen and David C. Britz serve as Executive Producers. WLIW21 in association with WNET.ORG will be the presenting station for PBS.
CALL ME FITZ PREMIERES THIS FALL ON HBO CANADA
Dusk has been busy in the studio recording the soundtrack for the anticipated new 13 episode Canadian miniseries Call Me Fitz, where his vocals will accompany the inner voice of morally bankrupt car salesman Richard Fitzpatrick (Fitz), played by Jason Priestly, who will do anything to sell his used cars.
The soundtrack for Call Me Fitz reflects Fitz’s idolization of the Rat Pack days when Bogart was King and everyone knew what it meant to ‘shake the hand’ of Sinatra. Stylistically suave, if not a little over-the-hill from heavy drinking, Fitz considers himself, (although delusional), to be the embodiment of ‘class’, and adopts a personal soundtrack representative of the classic Vegas crooners. Dusk portrays the musical voice of Fitz, singing classic songs with big band arrangements including: Yes I Can, That’s Life, Get Me on Your Mind, Anytime at All and two original songs by Dusk.
“Matt Dusk‘s vintage yet still-cool-contemporary croon was the perfect vibe for the Call Me Fitz score,” says series producer Sherri Elwood. “With his masterful re-interpretation of the standards, his voice became the soundtrack for Fitz’ inner emotional life and in turn, the heart and soul of the show!”
Produced by E1 Entertainment, Amaze Film + Television and Big Motion Pictures with Creator/Executive Producer Sheri Elwood (Defying Gravity), Call Me Fitz premieres on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 8:00 PM ET/MT on HBO Canada. The second season will begin production in the fall 2010. E1 Entertainment has sold Call Me Fitz to SPE Networks in Latin America and Africa, Comedy Central for Germany, Netherlands and Sweden, TVNZ in New Zealand and DBS in Israel.
