Crooner Matt Dusk Turns Up the Heat with Live Album and Upcoming Canadian Tour
Toronto, Ontario – March 15, 2011 – Hot off the heels of his successful international tour, Canada’s beloved über hip crooner and international recording artist, Matt Dusk, is thrilled to be releasing his 5th album
Live From Las Vegas with Universal Music. This special edition double CD/DVD was recorded on August 25, 2010 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas and will be available nationally at retail and online on May 10, 2011. PBS is currently airing the Las Vegas special in the US. The North American tour will begin in Montreal, QC on April 1st and run until May 28th (Canadian dates below). Country-Jazz cross-over sensation Anna Wilson will be opening up for Matt on all the Canadian tour dates. Her new CD Countrypolitan Duets will be released via Fontana North/Universal Music on April 5th, and includes a duet with Matt as well as Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Rogers, Larry Carlton and more.
Asked why the concert was recorded in Las Vegas, Dusk responds: “This is something I’ve always wanted to do, record a live concert!” says Dusk. “Back in the old days, when music was king, there was no auto tuning or editing, you had to be as good as ever! Especially with live recordings, you have one shot at getting this right!” And this time Dusk gets it right.
With his lush 18 piece big band, Dusk performs the classic Vegas swing hits inspired by the legends of Sin City. He delivers cherished favourites to the next generation with integrity and reverence, including “Get Me To The Church On Time,” “Luck Be A Lady,” “Mack The Knife,” and “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You,” a duet with singer/actress and Emmy-nominated producer Lorna Luft; Judy Gardland’s daughter.
Forging his own path, Dusk also performs originals including his number one hits “Back In Town,” “All About Me,” “Good News” and “Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad,” written by Bono & The Edge of U2 for Frank Sinatra.
Asked why the concert was recorded in Las Vegas, Dusk responds: “Finally, I’m back in the place my career began years ago. Vegas is the place that is drenched in big band history, and to revitalize that with a contemporary spin gets me excited! I mean… who doesn’t love Vegas?”
Live From Las Vegas is currently broadcasting nationwide on public television across the United States and will soon be airing in Canada. But Dusk insists the DVD only gives you a glimpse into the magic that occurs at a live show, as a result he is currently undertaking an almost three month Spring tour across Canada and the US, stopping in over 40 markets. “Every show is different! It’s about connecting with the audience. I encourage them to clap along, dance if there’s room, and sing… if they have to,” jokes Dusk.
Yes, things seem to be going well for this rising star. With two gold albums and three number one hits under his belt, he is enjoying the good life. However success hasn’t happened over night. With 14 years of being on and off the road, Dusk understands the importance of being successful. “Every night is a new night, and it could be your last. It’s important to understand that you are there for the audience. You must treat them with respect. If there are 50 or 5000 people in the show you’ve gotta give it your all.” That’s why after a concert Dusk always hangs around and meets anyone and everyone who would like to chat, grab a quick picture, or get an autograph. “Oh it’s awesome!” explains Dusk, “I mean…how can I walk away when there are people waiting for over an hour to say hello? I feel so lucky to have so many people who love the music the same way I do!”
And lucky he is, with Live From Las Vegas hitting shelves March 29, Dusk has hit the jackpot!
